Crimson Hunter

I was a little slow to the party with fliers. They are a neat addition to the game, and all I needed was to suffer a humiliating defeat to coax me into bolstering my Eldar army. Though it would have been more thematic to build a Wraithfighter, I decided to go for the Crimson Hunter:

This model is just awesome. I decided to go for the traditional colour scheme, with a bit more black, and a darker red to tie it into the rest of my Ulthwe army.

I opted for maximum tank/large elite killing power with the double bright lance fit out. As always painting the crisp, clean Eldar is very rewarding. And as seems to be the new usual; a shot from the back.

 

Wave Serpent

This is one I did a couple of years back now. When I first started collecting Eldar, Wave Serpents never existed, and it sucked. Now I'm pretty sure every Eldar player has at least 2-3 of these kicking around. I stay loyal to my other Falcons, but wouldn't say no to another.

It is such a sweet model. I love most of the Eldar range, and their tanks are just awesome.

The challenge I set myself this time was some free hand work on the lightning bolts. I think they turned out reasonably well.

I am also a big fan of getting into the cockpits, and other neat details GW throws into their tanks. It's a pity there's no other interior for the actual transport compartment. 

Armament was a tough choice for this one. The Bright Lances are not glued, and I have other guns in various stages of painting. Pairing them with a Shuriken Cannon is a bit odd, but I like have versatility.

Assault Marines

This week I've pulled some minis that don't usually see the light of day. I was really enthusiastic when painting them at first. Then I used them in battle and, against Tau, they really don't do any good. 

Dark Angels Assault Marines

These are the older models, not the cool new kit. They still look very cool though. I did throw a Dark Angels power sword on the sergeant. One of these days he'll get to use it. 

I'm pretty please with the results, they are by no means competition styles but they look good on the table. Please forgive the mold lines. I got lazy... Also trying to put transfers on a curved surface is nigh-impossible! Seeing as my buddy, whose Marines these are (I'm painting and storing them), got the transfer sheet from Forgeworld, I'm going to use them.

Warp Spiders

I have had these models in my collection for well over a decade. They've been painted, re-painted, stripped, covered in dust, and finally last month they were finished. So after all this time, at least the best unit in Dawn of War I, my Warp Spiders:
 

They are undoubtedly some pretty sweet models, but they are incredibly old sculpts. It would be awesome for a plastic, multi-part kit to be released. There are only two poses for the standard Spiders! Oh well, they still look awesome.

I always save my character models for last, and I think this guy turned out pretty nicely. I have a personal rule of only playing with fully painted models, so am pretty excited about unleashing this lot on my enemies.

I'm trying something new this time by giving you a look at the back of the model, which is often overlooked. For all you knew, they could have been half-painted. This is the view I'm hoping the young upstarts of the galaxy have just before my Spiders warp away after much destruction.

For Chaos!!

So a while back I decided to get into Chaos Marines as the counter to my friend's Dark Angels force. We've always been narrative players so it was just the perfect fit. I bought a box of marines and set to work figuring out a color scheme for The Scourged, a minor chapter tainted by Tzeentch, all driven mad by the whispers from The Lord of Change. So here we go:

 The color scheme is quite fun, and over the top ridiculous. So much gold is usually an eyesore, but it's tempered by the dark red and blue.  I also love that they have a distinct standard bearer and champion. Tactically I don't know if there is much point taking the Mark of Tzeentch for these guys. 3+ standard save gets you pretty far, but the Icon Of Flame is pretty neat.

I also bought some defense barricades a while back too, one of them with a few more spiky-bits added to be more Chaotic. 

Being followers of Tzeentch there's naturally a Sorcerer kicking around. I have also been charged to paint up the contents of the Dark Vengeance box so there's plenty of Cultists to come, as well as the awesome Helbrute, and amazing Chosen.

 

Hive Crone

Most of my choices come down to the fact that I face Tau a lot. My buddy acquired a flyer, so I needed something to counter, as well as scare the Hammerheads in the back with it's S8 Vector Strike.

Enter the Hive Crone

It is quite an amazing model, and I really enjoyed watching it take shape as I dry-brushed the various layers of browns and bone.

I particularly love the Tentaclids, the living missiles that ride under its wings. I've kept them detachable so as to keep count of how many I have left, and, if the feeling takes me, I can pretend one is zooming across the battlefield to bring bio-electric death to the enemy vehicles.

 I think I've decided the left side is its better one.
